Title: Create our own local “Cobrasnake”
Author: Amy Forsthoefel
The Idea:
Cobrasnake is an American photographer based out of the Los Angeles area. He maintains a photoblog at http://www.thecobrasnake.com/partyphotos.html. The Cobrasnake, which predominantly chronicles Los Angeles hipster and underground party culture as well as documenting the high fashion world. The blog has risen to popularity as an internet phenomenon, and has since been featured in The Los Angeles Times , The New York Times, Nylon Magazine, the LA Weekly and a number of other arts, culture, and fashion publications.

Active Dayton has party crashers who frequent events, but they may be biased for their business. If we could get local photographers to document the scene and post it online, we could build a reputation for the scene and start an active online community to build offline community.

Yeah, this is cool. The Bhudda Den does this a bit, and you mention the party crashers. But someone doing street photography of the scene: bands, art, partys, shows, etc, would be a good way to put out an online presence for what’s going here.

I’ve been working with various photographers over the past year to put together a project that would even better document the music side of the Dayton entertainment scene. I have extensive archives from the past 18 months, as well as numerous contacts that also have plenty of material.

At this point, the biggest challenge that I see is that many people in Dayton still fail to realize that there is a vibrant, eclectic music scene here and that, without their support it will continue to merely exist under the radar. I would encourage anyone to visit our site and find a band that suits their tastes and go out to a local club and support these artists. Nearly all shows are $5 or less (The Buddha Den hosts a FREE monthly at South Park Tavern). We have a calendar on our page that suggests some of the better shows in Dayton.
