Title: LED Street Lamps
Author: Sam Kligerman
The Idea:Replacing our current incandescent street lamps with LED lamps can have multiple benefits to our city. First, they require less maintenance because LED lights run for 50,000 to 70,000 hours, while today’s sodium lamps are rated at 24,000 hours. No harmful chemicals are release when old light bulbs are thrown away. Third, the city will reduce it’s energy consumption by 25-30%, thereby paying for itself in two to three years! If street lamps are placed in strategic areas, they can have the affect of lowering crime rate and improving the public’s sense of fear.

I agree with LED street lighting. It makes economical sense, and cuts back on maintenance. People have the wrong image in mind when they think of Dayton, Ohio,…. and it is because they can’t see it. The store owners downtown close early, essentially because of lighting. When it gets dark so does Dayton,….. why stay open when everyone is afraid of the dark. The highways are very close and have a daytime magnificent view of Dayton. When it is dark and you pass downtown,… you hardly notice there is a city. The taller buildings should be proud they stand out and accent their buildings with lighting. This would attract tourism as well. I agree go with affordable lighting! If you can see in the dark,… you can have fun in the dark.!
