Registration is now open for the 2010 Young Creatives Summit. On Friday, April 16, updayton invites young, creative people to bring their ideas for the future of our region. The Summit is a fun opportunity to make a difference, make connections, and build valuable skills.
Updayton started the Young Creatives Summit in 2009 as an opportunity to give young professionals a stronger voice in the direction of the region. The Miami Valley struggles with a substantial “brain drain” since many of our talented college students move away upon graduation. Updayton believes that these young people are the best equipped to determine the needs of the region in plugging the “brain drain.” At the Summit, young people have the opportunity to speak up about their greatest needs and propose the very solutions that will make the region more exciting and livable.
The 2010 Young Creatives Summit is scheduled on April 16 from 1-5 PM at the Dayton Convention Center. A resource fair and lunch kicks off the event at Noon. After the Summit, participants are encouraged to attend an after-party at the Historic Amory in the Oregon District. The full agenda is available on-line at http://updayton.com/summit/summit-2010/. Summit registration is $15 ($5 for students); cost includes participation in the Summit, free admittance to the after-party, and discounts at many local dining and entertainment establishments.
Online registration is available now at http://updayton.com. Registrants will select one topic to participate in a break-out session to brainstorm ideas to make the Dayton region a place where they’re proud and passionate to live. It’s time to get creative, sharpen ideas and turn hope into action. Break-out session topics include entrepreneurship, diversity, communities, and entertainment/recreation.
New this year, updayton has incorporated professional development workshops to give participants the tools they will need to implement these project ideas. Workshops include topics such as leadership in communities, fundraising, communicating with stakeholders, demystifying local government, entrepreneurship, and event planning. Participants will hear from expert panels to get the hints and tips on the practical skills they need to make a difference in the community.
Last year’s Summit hosted over 200 young creatives and resulted in the implementation of exciting projects including the online magazine at www.DaytonMostMetro.com and the mural projects and clean-up along Wayne Avenue between the Cannery and Oregon Districts.
Back by popular demand, the Summit After-Party is bigger and better than ever. After all the hard work, it’s time to celebrate with food, drink, and fun. Hosted at the Historic Armory in the Oregon District, participants receive free admission with their Summit lanyard.
Updayton is especially grateful for the support of many partners coming together to make the Summit a success. Top-level sponsors of the Summit include the Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education, The University of Dayton Fitz Center for Leadership in Community, and the Dayton City Paper. A full list of sponsors is available at http://updayton.com.
