Dayton’s young professional (YP) organizations specialize in many topics. YP groups focus on arts, recreation, professional development, or volunteerism, and all vie for the attention of Dayton’s many 20- and 30-somethings. However, at the 2010 Young Creatives Summit – twelve of Dayton’s YP organizations are working together to create a more vibrant and exciting region in order to attract and retain more young talent.

The 2009 Young Creatives Summit resulted in the implementation of regional projects such as an online community resource (DaytonMostMetro.com) and the Wayne Avenue Corridor beautification project. Although this year’s focus is still on the creation of tangible projects to better the region, the 2010 Summit has been streamlined with emphasis on professional development, engagement opportunities, and networking.

The updayton Young Creatives Summit invites young people to put their personal stamp on Dayton. Taking place this Friday, April 16 at the Dayton Convention Center, the agenda is as follows:

12:00 – 1:00 p.m. – Lunch, Resource Fair & Check-In
1 PM – 1:15 p.m. - Welcome Session
1:15 – 2:30 p.m. – Breakouts: Summit participants break-out into groups to brainstorm project ideas to tackle important topics such as diversity, entertainment/recreation, entrepreneurship, and a sense of community. Each room determines top project ideas that will make a real impact in our region.
2:45 – 4:15 p.m. – Workshops: Local community, business, and government leaders team together to offer “crash courses” on the skills needed to make a difference in the community. Topics include: fundraising, media communication, civic leadership, event planning, working with local government, and entrepreneurship. Workshops will be 40 minutes long and each participant will be able to attend two workshops.
4:30 – 5:00 p.m. – Summit Town Hall: The entire group gets back together to discuss the highly-ranked ideas from the breakout sessions & vote on the top four. Dayton’s leadership will be there to listen. The top ideas will become part of the 2010 Summit Action Plan, which will be implemented after the Summit.

Summit pre-registration will be open at www.updayton.com through Thursday, April 15th at 4pm. Walk-ups will be welcomed at the door on Friday.
